The Only Certainty: Prototype Assets

Happy New Year everyone who still reads this thing.

I actually made this a while ago, but for whatever reason it slipped my mind to show it here. I've been continuing to work alongside Midnight Launch Studios to develop the feel for the sci-fi survival title, The Only Certainty. We've made a lot of progress since then, but a while ago I was asked to make some prototype assets to build demos with. Some floating space junk to serve as obstacles, monitors that the player will scan throughout the game, an enemy satellite drone, and of course the player's ship on the right.

Part of the purpose of the game is to avoid confrontation--the main theme is survival, not outright combat, so I didn't want anything too hostile looking for the protagonist's primary transportation. Freighters and cruise liners were used for inspiration for the shape. Also tested out a possible animation for the scanner. I think it looks like a TV remote, but hey... it's something.

We're still sticking with the old-timey sci-fi grayscale look, so we'll see how far we can take it before running into problems. The main purpose for these was to get past ideas floating around and actually start looking at how the game will appear in its playable state. From here we'll probably be adding details where necessary and moving on to more refined designs for things like spacecraft and environments. Here's another little prototype I threw together with the recent assets.
